EgyptAir is a traditional airline with a modern fleet that can look back on 75 years of history. The airline was founded in 1932, the first flight a year later from Cairo to Alexandria. Cairo International Airport is used as a hub.
Egyptair is one of the leading airlines. It was founded in May 1932, being the 7th largest airline in the world. In 1935, 12 De Havilland aircraft were added to its fleet. During World War II, the Egyptian government took over the company and changed its name to Misr Airlines.
In 1946, the name Misr Airlines was changed to MisrAir and 10 Beechcraft aircraft were acquired, adding elements of American technology to its fleet. In 1960, MisAir merged with Syrian Airlines to form a new identity called United Arab Airlines-UAA. In 1971, MisrAir and Syrian Airlines split, leading to the formation of a new identity called Egyptair.
With the approval of the presidency in July 2002, Egypt Airlines 9 different subsidiaries (Egyptair Airlines, Egyptair Express, Egyptair Cargo, Egyptair Tourism (Karnak) & Duty free, Egyptair Maintenance & Engineering, Egyptair Ground Handling, Egyptair Aircraft Services, Egyptair Health Services and Egyptair Auxiliary Industries) became a holding company.
Every year around 8.4 million passengers are transported to all regions of the world. Membership in the Star Alliance and agreements with code-share partners have allowed the expansion network to grow steadily. It is the only Star Alliance member airline in North Africa and the Middle East since 2008.
Egyptair is also a member of the Arab Air Carriers Organization, which has existed since 1965 and can be entered by anyone belonging to the Arab League.
The EgyptAir Express subsidiary operates flights within Egypt and the neighboring countries.
In June 2020, the fleet size was 51 aircraft, composed of aircraft from Airbus and Boeing. A flight with an Egyptair aircraft takes place in an aircraft that is 7.8 years old (as of June 2020). The airline’s frequent flyer program is called Egyptair Plus.

Egyptair Classes of Service
The company offers 2 types of seats and 1 extra during transatlantic flights.
The position is called “Y” in Egyptair. The distance between the seats is 0.8 meters and they have custom headrests.
The position is called “C” in Egyptair. The distance between the seats is 0.90-1.20 meters. On the Boeing 777, the positions have individual screens and range up to 0.36 meters.
First Class is indicated by “F”. The distance between the first class seats is arranged as 1.5 meters. There are special screens at each seat and the seats sit back as 40 centimeters.
Egyptair is flying to 14 Egyptian cities on the domestic routes, mainly Alexandria, Cairo, Hurghada, Luxor, Sharm El Sheikh. Major countries that the airline flew flying to numerous destinations abroad : India, Saudi Arabia, (UAE), United Arab Emirates, USA, Italy, Oman, England, Germany, Sudan, Iraq and Turkey.

In a ceremony at Cairo International Airport on July 11, 2008, the carrier became the 21st member of the Star Alliance alliance.
The Egyptian airline offers its passengers the following check-in options: at the counter, online and mobile.
The airline enables online check-in from one day to 90 minutes before departure. An optimized website is available at mobile.egyptair.com for the mobile check-in service. You can check in on your smartphone two days to 90 minutes before the scheduled start.

While the counters on domestic flights are open from two hours to 30 minutes before the start of the journey, check-in at the airport is possible three hours to one hour before the start for international flights.
Egyptair Baggage Allowance
For all connections a hand luggage piece may be carried on board. The total weight of this can not exceed 8 kg. In addition, you can carry a personal item, such as a handbag, a laptop or a bag. For international connections, the hand luggage of the higher booking classes includes two pieces of luggage. The airline recommends that all valuables be stored in the luggage bag. Egyptair passengers shall always comply with IATA international guidelines and aviation authorities with regard to various liquids, as well as pointed and dangerous objects. 2 pieces may not be carried on board.
On international flights two bags can be carried free of charge. These may not exceed 23 kg in Economy Class and 32 kg in Business Class and First Class. On national routes one can only take one piece of luggage of 23 kg in Economy Class. In business class, it is 32 kg, also in the first class. Egyptair explicitly points out that also in the checked baggage no corrosive means, magnetic materials and fireworks bodies may be carried along.
If the special bag, such as sports equipment or musical instruments, does not exceed the weight limit of the baggage allowance, it can be carried free of charge. Otherwise, the same fees apply as with the over-luggage (for some sports luggage apply more favorable special tariffs). These are dependent on the flight connection and the kind of the luggage.

Egyptair Seat Selection
Egyptair passengers can reserve a seat as part of online and mobile check-in. However, the airline reserves the right to change the already selected seats. Passengers who, on the other hand, need a little more space can add an additional seat. Finally, the Egyptian airline will inform you about the availability. Comfort seats with more legroom are currently not available.
Egyptair Knee Distance
Because of the airlines who want to reduce the cost of flying more passengers, knee distance is very important especially on long haul flights. The front seats and emergency exit seats are the seats with the highest knee distance. It is generally sold for a fee.
EgyptAir Plus Frequent Flyer Program
As a member of the Star Alliance, EgyptAir offers the participants of their frequent flyer program the opportunity to earn miles on flights with the 26 27 other Star Alliance partners. The National Bank of Egypt is another partner of EgyptAir Plus . The bonus miles resulting from the flight activities of up to five direct family members may be credited to the account of a principal member. Collected miles remain valid for 36 months.
EgyptAir Plus miles
Miles can be used for bonus flights and upgrades on all EgyptAir and Star Alliance flights. Missing miles can be earned according to the Silver Elitestatus, the gold status is reached 30,000 miles (within two years).Elitem’s privileges include preferred check-in, faster boarding, extra luggage, lounge access, and an additional bonus on credited miles on EgyptAir flights. One million bonus miles on the account will ensure a lifetime platinum membership and maximum benefits. Family members can also benefit from the tickets and upgrades. On EgyptAir flights, there is also the possibility to carry an extra piece of luggage for bonus miles.
Egyptair Food & Beverage
Passengers are already provided with on-board catering in the economy at no extra charge. This is usually a sandwich and a drink for short journeys, a warm meal plus drink for longer journeys. The food is prepared according to the halal criteria. Special meals such as kosher or vegetarian food as well as food for babies and diabetics can be pre-ordered up to 48 hours before departure. As an airline in a Muslim country, EgyptAir generally does not serve alcohol on board.
Egypt Air does not provide any further information on board catering on its website. Customers report on websites in the business of crab salad as a starter, a steak as a main course and cakes for dessert. In addition to water and soft drinks, tea specialties, coffee and juices are also served. Photos show in the business porcelain tableware. According to experience reports, the quality is satisfactory.
As a passenger, you can expect free food and drink in all booking classes at Egypt Air, but you must refrain from being served with alcohol. Frequent flyers, however, report that the consumption of alcoholic beverages brought along is usually tolerated by the staff. As expected for a member of the Star Alliance, the provision of special meals works.
Egyptair Inflight Entertainment
Especially in long distances, Egyptair offers in-flight entertainment, so you can enjoy your flight without getting bored.
The airline offers you movies, music, TV shows and more entertainment options that will allow you to travel without getting bored. Business Class (also known as “C”) and First Class (also known as “F”), offer the ability to watch movies on individual screens.
Egyptair is currently offering WLAN on board selected Airbus A330-300 flights. Access on board is similar to that of any public WLAN hotspot.
