Carry-on baggage

Basically liquids in American Airlines hand luggage in 100 milliliter containers (packed in a max. 0.95 l bag) as well as valuables, jewelry and medicine of all kinds are allowed. The size of the baggage must not exceed 56 cm x 36 cm x 23 cm. In addition, you can take a personal item such as a handbag or a laptop on board, which must be stowed under the front seat. The special thing about American Airlines is that there is no weight limit for hand luggage.

Checked baggage

All travel items that are prohibited in hand baggage may be taken into the checked baggage at the counter, provided that they are not illegal products such as weapons without a gun license or drugs. In principle, there is the option of carrying a piece of luggage with a maximum weight of 23 kg and a maximum circumference of 157 cm in economy class on all connections. Eight additional pieces of luggage can also be checked in in this booking class, with fees of up to 150 euros depending on the connection. For flights from or to Central and South America, there is a higher free baggage allowance of two pieces of baggage of 32 kg each.

Other luggage

American Airlines Food & Beverage

Due to the sheer size of American Airlines, it is impossible to list in detail the rules for on-board catering that vary depending on the destination, flight duration and booking class. In principle, however, it applies to all passengers that non-alcoholic drinks plus cookies or savory biscuits are included in the ticket price. A distinction is made between the Basic, Extra and Premium booking class Economy, which also has an impact on the on-board catering available at no extra charge. Usually, beer, wine, spirits and light meals can be ordered at least for an additional fee. On many routes it is possible to order special meals such as kosher, Muslim or vegan food or food for diabetics, allergy sufferers and minors in advance.

From business, eating and drinking at American Airlines are always included in the travel price and served on porcelain. The airline recommends that you find out about the food on the Internet or phone before departure and make your own choice. It is advertised with the collaboration with renowned chefs who are responsible for menus that offer typical US cuisine alongside specialties from the regions of the world served.

These chefs are also responsible for first class. As in the business, American Airways emphasizes that it has won several awards for its wine list. First class travelers are free to choose their own meal time and can also request light snacks at any time.

If you want to be on the safe side when it comes to on-board catering from American Airlines, you should register your preferences in all booking classes by phone or online before departure. Everything is possible at American Airlines between the standard of a low-cost airline on short routes and the experience of a first class.

Anyone who has opted for Basic Economy on flights within the United States can take a piece of luggage into the cabin that fits under the front seat. Conveniences include a comfortable seat, plus free snacks and soft drinks. On many international flights of at least 3,000 miles, passengers can enjoy the benefits of the premium economy. These include wider seats, more legroom and adjustable foot, leg and headrests. The wide range of dishes includes healthy dishes that are geared towards the destination. WiFi is available for a fee, there are sockets and USB ports on every seat. Further arguments for the premium economy are quick check-in and boarding and quick baggage handling.
