About Royal Brunei Airlines
Royal Brunei Airlines is an airline of the Sultanate of Brunei on the island of Borneo. Royal Brunei Airlines is based in the capital, Bandar Seri Begawan. Created in 1974, Royal Brunei Airlines ensured its first flight on April 14, 1975 between Brunei airport and Singapore. On the same day, flights to Hong Kong and Malaysia are provided. The company grew rapidly, and thus offered to fly to the Philippines and Bangkok two years later.
In 1980, it acquired a third Boeing 737-200, which enabled it to open a new line to Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta, expanding its network in Southeast Asia. Royal Brunei Airlines continues its progress with the purchase of a new Boeing 767-300 in 1990 which allows it to establish a link between Brunei and Europe, via Bangkok and Dubai. The airline’s rapid growth was severely dampened by the Asian crisis at the end of the 1990s, so that Royal Brunei Airlines had to reduce its air fleet and its route network. The beginning of the 20th century will be synonymous with change for the company: in 2003 it began a project to restructure its fleet, and wanted to go from 9 to 24 aircraft by 2013. From 2004 until 2010, Royal Brunei envisaged to invest $ 400 million in the purchase of much stronger and more efficient devices.
As the sale of alcohol is prohibited in Brunei, no alcoholic beverages are served or sold on board. All dishes are halal, i.e. prepared according to Islamic law. In the menus, particular emphasis was placed on diversity and healthy and light food. The on-board magazine is called Muhibah. Royal Brunei Airlines has five different tariffs to meet the needs of all passengers. The low-cost fares are known as Bluesky Fares and were introduced to face the growing competition from low-cost airlines. The range of Bluesky Fares is limited, however, and miles cannot be earned with these flights. The frequent flyer program is called Royal Skies. Awards are free flights and ticket upgrades. The lounge at Brunei Airport is known as the Sky Lounge. There are prayer rooms, massage chairs and showers, among other things. As with all products from Royal Brunei Airlines, customers there receive the highest level of comfort.

One piece of luggage weighing no more than seven kilograms is permitted in Economy Class. Here, too, the maximum dimensions are 55 x 38 x 20 centimeters. Royal Brunei Airlines Seat Selection
Passengers of the Bruneian airline can reserve a seat during the online check-in. The airline is currently not providing any information about the allocation of XL seats with more legroom or the reservation of extra seats.
Royal Brunei Airlines Knee Distance
Because of the airlines who want to reduce the cost of flying more passengers, knee distance is very important especially on long haul flights. The front seats and emergency exit seats are the seats with the highest knee distance. It is generally sold for a fee.
Royal Skies Frequent Flyer Program
With the Royal Skies bonus program , frequent flyers can collect airline miles in order to benefit from the discounts. So far, there are no partnerships with other airlines within the framework of the frequent flyer program. Membership in the loyalty program that was set up in 2003 is still worthwhile for frequent fliers. The award miles can be earned on flights with Royal Brunei as well as reservations made by some cooperating hotel chains (e.g. Taj Hotels and Hyatt) and with a number of other partners. The car rental company Hertz is also a participant in the Royal Skies bonus program.
Benefits of the frequent flyer program
Frequent flyers can exchange the miles they have earned for free award flights or upgrades with Royal Brunei. It is also possible to exchange the miles for awards with partners. The miles remain on the frequent flyer account for three years before they expire. There are two membership levels available to frequent flyers: Silver Elite and Gold Elite. The Silver Elite Card is awarded if you have flown at least 25,000 miles a year, and 50,000 miles within a year receive the Gold Elite Card. The advantages of Royal Skies are bonus miles, which are awarded according to the membership level, an increased free baggage allowance and access to the airport lounge.
Royal Brunei Airlines Food & Beverage
Both economy and business passengers are served on-board catering that is included in the ticket price and complies with halal rules. Since the sale of alcohol is forbidden in Brunei, it is not offered by Royal Brunei Airlines either. The airline advertises in the economy with elegant and at the same time filling food. Sample photos show meat dishes with pasta, vegetables and salad, as well as cakes for dessert. Requests relating to special eating habits can be made by telephone up to 24 hours before the start of the journey. The list of special meals includes child and baby food as well as light and raw food, gluten-free dishes and options for diabetics and allergy sufferers.
In business, Royal Brunei Airlines promises on-board catering at the level of a first class, but without publishing sample menus. Travel bloggers report on opulent five-course menus in the business, which could be enjoyed from porcelain and at an individually determined time. Chicken, fresh fruit, vegetable soup, cheese platter, ice cream – hardly a wish was left unfulfilled. Frequent flyers note that the consumption of alcohol bought in the duty-free area on board is usually tolerated.
As long as you can survive a flight without alcohol, Royal Brunei Airlines will take care of you in both booking classes. The food and non-alcoholic beverages received consistently high marks on internet portals.
Royal Brunei Airlines Inflight Entertainment
On board, Royal Brunei Airlines offers two levels of comfort. In Economy class, passengers benefit from reclining seats with personal screens. The company also provides them with a selection of on-demand audio and video entertainment such as the latest films released in theaters, TV programs for all ages, as well as video games. In Business class, passengers have more comfort with ergonomic seats convertible into beds, equipped with a duvet and a large pillow, or even a personal screen.
So far, Royal Brunai Airlines passengers have not been able to surf the Internet during the flight. It is currently not known whether this service will be offered by the Asian airline in the future. You can find the latest news on the airline’s website.
