About Air Vanuatu
At the time of its creation in December 1987, Air Vanuatu acquired a Boeing 737-200. In 1989, she acquired a Boeing 727-200 which she nicknamed the “Spirit of Vanuatu”. The opening of Bauerfield International Airport in Port Vila in 1991 was a born for the company which now has a base. To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the creation of Air Vanuatu, a new head office, Air Vanuatu House, was inaugurated in Port Vila in 1997. The company also acquired new, more modern colors.
In 2004, Air Vanuatu merged with Vanair, allowing it to recover its domestic and international flights. It is thus gaining importance in the local airspace and towards Australia, New Caledonia and New Zealand.
In July 2020, due to the coronavirus crisis, the management teams decided to implement major changes in the organization of the airline. Reduction of the management team and change of its location, postponement of the receipt of orders and strategic review of the network are part of the main lines of their program.
