Allegiant Air About Allegiant Air

Founded in 1997 by Mitch Allee, Jim Patterson and Captain Dave Beadle, Allegiant Air is a low-cost US airline owned by the Allegiant Travel Company. Originally named WestJet Express, the company was quickly renamed under its current name to avoid any brand conflict with West Jet Air Center in Rapid City, South Dakota, or any resemblance to WestJet Airlines, Canada.

In 1998, Allegiant Air began its first scheduled domestic and charter flights throughout the United States and, during that same year, employed more than 1,500 people. On December 13, 2000, the airline filed for bankruptcy and was then completely restructured by the new CEO Maurice J. Gallagher. Since then, Allegiant Air has had its home base in Las Vegas. From now on, Allegiant Air concentrated primarily on the routes that were not served by the larger American airlines, or only with a smaller aircraft. With the help of Allegiant Air, it is possible to fly with the various aircraft to a wide variety of national destinations. The airline attaches great importance to taking good care of its passengers. Only professional flight attendants are employed who take care of the well-being of the travelers.

From its main hub, based at McCarran International Airport or its many secondary hubs, the US air carrier currently offers flights to more than 100 cities in the United States.
