SunExpress About SunExpress

SunExpress is a German-Turkish airline that transports holidaymakers and businessmen between Turkey and major European cities. It was over six million passengers who booked the low-cost carriers in 2010. Today, the company is one of the largest charter and holiday airlines in Europe. As a subsidiary of German Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines, SunExpress was founded in 1989 to meet the then growing Turkish tourism in Europe. The first low-cost flight took place in April 1990 from Frankfurt to Antalya.

With a constant increase in its scheduled flights, the airline company SunExpress inaugurates the opening of its second hub in Izmir and begins its domestic flights in 2006. This is followed by the opening of its third hub in Istanbul in 2008. The airline subsidiary launched in 2011, SunExpress Deutschland, ceased operations in 2020, having been unable to recover from the damage caused by the coronavirus crisis.

The fleet consists entirely of Boeings. A complimentary Mediterranean menu is served on international flights. On domestic flights, snacks and drinks can be purchased on board. There is a modern video and audio entertainment program on longer flights. Numerous routes from SunExpress are offered at low prices. One of the airline’s primary goals is to promote social and cultural life in Antalya and Izmir. She supports the Antalya Piano Festival and the International Izmir Festival. In this way, the airline has made an important contribution to the development of culture and tourism in Turkey. For years, tourists were able to travel to the cultural capital of Istanbul at exceptionally low airfare. In addition to charter flights, SunExpress also offers scheduled flights and would like to offer a platform to business customers in particular. SunExpress’ frequent flyer program is called SunExpress Bonus.
