About Saudi Arabia Airlines
Saudia was established as the flag carrier airline with the Douglas DC-3 aircraft, which was given as a gift to the king of Saudi Arabia Abdul Aziz Ibn Saud by the US President Franklin D. Roosevelt under the name of Saudi Arabian Airlines in 1945. The airline belongs to the state of Saudi Arabia and is headquartered in Jeddah.
In 1949, the acquisition of five Bristol 170s made it possible to transport both travelers and cargo. Continuing to grow, the company extended its services in the 1950s to Istanbul, Karachi, Oman, Kuwait City, Asmara and Sudan. In 1963, thanks to King Faisal of Saudi Arabia, it gained its independence. From the 1990s, it offered many destinations such as Orlando, Washington, Johannesburg and Milan. It took its current name in 1973.
As part of its fleet modernization program, Saudia ordered eight Airbus A330s in 2008, an order that follows on from the order placed in 2007 and which then marked the first civil aircraft contract signed in twenty-six years between the company and Airbus. Today, at a time when environmental issues are particularly important in the world, the Saudi company has taken care to choose devices that display the lowest fuel consumption and the best profitability on the market. Member of Skyteam since May 2012, Saudia is the first Gulf company to join this alliance. In 2017, it launched its low-cost subsidiary, “Flyadeal”, which provides most of the domestic flights. It celebrates its 75 years of existence in 2020.
With Alfursan, Saudi Arabian Airlines offers frequent flyers a special program to collect bonus miles. This not only saves one or two euros in the long run, but also brings advantages during check-in, which can usually be carried out more quickly and easily.
