Royal Jordanian About Royal Jordanian

Royal Jordan is Jordan’s flag carrier airline. At the initiative of King Hussein, the airline was founded in 1963 with the name of the eldest child, Alia. The center is Amman and uses Queen Alia Airport as hub. It began operating the same year and served Kuwait City, Beirut and Cairo. In 1965, it opened up to Europe and served the city of Rome. In 1970, Alia joined the era of the jet plane by purchasing a Boeing 707.

Over the years and with the progressive acquisition of planes, the company increased the number of destinations served: Frankfurt and Abu Dhabi in 1970, Madrid, Copenhagen and Karachi in 1971, but also Bahrain, Dubai, Geneva, Amsterdam, Baghdad, Bangkok, New York …
In 1980, Alia became Royal Jordanian. In 1990, the company was the first to serve Gaza’s new international airport.
