Pegasus About Pegasus

If you regularly go on holiday in Turkey, Pegasus Airlines should be a familiar term. Because the airline is not only based in Istanbul, it has been offering cheap flights to the popular holiday destination for over 20 years . Founded in 1989 as a charter airline, as a joint venture by three airline companies, Aer Lingus, Silkar Investment and Net Holding; the company initially had to contend with the regional unrest and the lack of tourists. It was only in 1992 that flight operations really began. The highlight of the company’s history so far was 2005, the year when Pegasus Airlines became a low-cost airline. This decision was rewarded with success, so the 2007 line transported most passengers to and from Turkey. The company’s domestic market share has grown exponentially from 15% in 2007 to 30% in 2018. Three Boeing machine types are mainly used for this purpose: Boeing 737-400, 737-500 and 737-800. They serve over 70 destinations in Asia and Europe.

Within the years, Pegasus led the field among airlines by introducing the “low cost model” in Turkey, which became the company’s trademark along with its high investment in cutting-edge technology.

The company itself is privately organized and belongs to the group ESAS Holding. The staff of the line as well as the cabin staff are trained in their own training center.

Pegasus Airlines Hub Airports

Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport

The focus, and therefore the main airport used, is the Sabiha Gökçen, which acts as a hub for all travelers to Turkey who fly with Pegasus Airlines.

Pegasus Airlines Classes of Service

When it comes to booking classes, Pegasus Airlines does not use the conventional terms economy class, business class and first class. Instead, passengers can choose between different flight packages with the names Basic, Essentials, Advantage and Extras for a Pegasus Ariline flight . The services included primarily relate to the amount of luggage, meals on board, seat reservations and the option to rebook or cancel flights free of charge. In the Basic flight package, for example, only up to eight kilograms of hand luggage are allowed, while the Extras flight package also includes up to 25 kilograms of free baggage.

Pegasus Airlines should be a familiar term for those who regularly vacation in Turkey. Because the airline is not only based in Istanbul, but has also been offering cheap flights to the popular holiday destination for over 20 years.

There are numerous destinations within Turkey as well as destinations in other European countries. For example, you can reach Izmir, Antalya, Ankara and Dalaman on national Flypgs flights.
