About Norwegian Air Shuttle
Norwegian Air Shuttle was founded in 1993 and initially operated regional flights for the no longer existing Braathens airline. It is based in Baerum-Fornebu near Oslo. After 8 years of collaboration, Braathens joined SAS Scandinavian Airlines and Norwegian Air Shuttle then launched its low-cost flights in November 2002. After signing codeshare agreements with Fly Nordic and Sterling Airlines in 2004, it finally bought Fly Nordic in 2007. Two years later, 2009 was marked by the launch of 39 new routes in Denmark and provided Norwegian with its best annual review since its creation. Norwegian distinguished itself in 2011 by being the first company to provide in-flight Wi-Fi to its passengers on European flights. A year later, it signed a major order for 122 Boeing and 100 Airbus, which marked the history of European aviation.
With a modern fleet in constant renewal, it serves many destinations and has succeeded in establishing itself as the second largest Scandinavian company. In 2018, however, the company changed its commercial strategy and focused more on exploiting the profitability of its lines. At the start of 2019, it also implemented a restructuring which resulted in the closure of several crew bases outside Norway as well as the cancellation of almost all of its Airbus order. Today, with a fleet of 145 aircraft, Norwegian and its subsidiaries serve nearly 150 destinations around the world.
