About Lufthansa CityLine
Based in Munich (Cologne until 2013), Lufthansa CityLine can be regarded as a German regional airline with important hubs in Frankfurt am Main and Munich. Founded in 1958 as Ostfriesische Lufttaxi – Dekker and Janssen OHG, the airline, which is limited to the north, was restructured in 1970.
The company was founded anew and is named directly after as Deutsche Luftverkehrsgesellschaft mbH and later as Lufthansa CityLine, for urban and, from 1977, for the beginning international flight routes thanks to the Short 330 aircraft. As a subsidiary of Lufthansa, connections to Copenhagen and Amsterdam were offered, and the domestic route network was expanded in 1979. With the subsequent integration of the HS 748 and the Embraer 120, occupancy and travel comfort were increased. After the successful expansion of Lufthansa CityLine in the 1980s, the airline became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Deutsche Lufthansa AG in 1993.
Lufthansa CityLine is part of the Lufthansa Regional Association and a member of the Star Alliance. Frequent flyers benefit from the Lufthansa Group’s Miles & More program and can therefore fly cheaply and inexpensively to the airline’s numerous destinations.
