About Hawaiian Airlines
The Hawaiian airline was first founded in 1929 under the name Inter-Island Airways. Gradually, traffic developed and air mail was established. In 1941, the airline changed its name to Hawaiian Airlines. During WWII, the military took control of Hawaiian airspace and used some of the company’s planes, out of the 20 or so in the fleet. In the 1960s, the increase in inter-island air traffic led to an increase in the activity of the airline.
Condé Nast Traveler elected Hawaiian Airlines one of the safest airlines in the world in 1990. Backed by this award, the company has continued to modernize its fleet, notably acquiring Boeing 717-200s in 2001 and Boeing 767s in 2002. The company’s international development is carried out with the establishment of international links to destinations in the Pacific region. San Diego was thus served in 2003, Sydney in 2004, Seoul in 2011 and Beijing in 2014. The cessation of activities of the Hawaiian competitor Aloha Airlines in 2008 caused a sharp increase in air traffic for Hawaiian Airlines. It therefore increased the number of weekly inter-island rotations by 110. The largest Hawaiian airline, Hawaiian Airlines prided itself on transporting nearly 8.3 million passengers in 2009.
The company’s homepage is divided into three categories: “Explore”, “Book Travel” and “Manage”. This gives you the opportunity not only to book a flight or a travel package, but also to find out more about Hawaii and to manage the bookings made. The booking process takes into account the distinction between three cabin classes: Main Cabin, Extra Comfort and First Class. The main distinguishing features are the level of seating comfort as well as the range of meals and entertainment. Hawaiian Airlines passengers can benefit from the frequent flyer program HawaiianMiles.

Hawaiian Airlines passengers are provided with on-board catering in all booking classes at no extra charge. In the economy there are, for example, chicken breasts with vegetables and rice on routes to North America and a sweet dessert. When flying to Japan, Asian dishes such as filled dumplings are offered. In addition to coffee, tea, water, soft drinks and juices, the beverage selection also includes beer and wine. It is possible to order additional snacks such as nuts or chips during the flights for an additional charge. Hawaiian Airlines expressly advises not to provide any special meals and asks the passengers to bring their own food, which may have been prepared according to special rules, on board.
In the business, Hawaiian Airlines serves a welcome cocktail. After that, the meals differ depending on the destination. For routes in the area of Oceania, shrimps are offered as a starter, followed by chicken with risotto or mussels on rice noodles. For dessert, there are chocolate passion fruit cakes. The selection of drinks in the business also includes Prosecco and various spirits. Porcelain is eaten.
In First Class you can feast extensively. On the route to New York, for example, a vegetable roll with goat cheese or a salad of seafood opens the meal. The main dishes include grilled chicken with pineapple or pasta with green asparagus. Cheesecake with caramel is the final dessert. Of course, Hawaiian Airlines also offers the right wine accompaniment and snacks in First Class, along with a selection of cocktails.
For an American airline, Hawaiian Airlines pays unusual attention to on-board catering. However, if you want special meals for health, ideological or religious reasons, you should pack your own food, since Hawaiian Airlines does not offer such dishes even if ordered in advance.
