Flybe About Flybe

Founded in November 1979 under the name Jersey European Airways, the Flybe was bought in 1983 by the Walter Steel group, already at the head of the company Spacegrand Aviation. The two companies eventually merged in 1985 and the new company thus created took the name of Jersey European Airways. On this occasion, new planes were ordered, including jets.It subsequently expanded its network and had the idea of offering two different levels of comfort on board its planes. It was thus the first national airline to offer Business class to its passengers. After being awarded the UK’s Best Regional Airline two years in a row (1993 and 1994), Jersey European began to be a major airline. It was renamed British European Airways in 2002 but finally switched to the Flybe name on June 18 of that year.

In January 2019, the Connect Airways consortium, comprising the airline Virgin Atlantic, the Stobart Group and the investment fund Cyrus Capital injected money into the company. It thus changed its name in 2020 while retaining its independence. But on March 5, 2020, due to financial difficulties made worse by the coronavirus crisis, it announces the end of its activities.

Flybe is committed to safe, reliable and punctual flights and a friendly and helpful staff. At least 99% of flybe’s planned flights should succeed and the delay at the point of arrival should not be more than a quarter of an hour, which in turn is aimed for 90% of the aircraft. The frequent flyer program is called Avios. When buying a flight ticket, flybe passengers can choose between the Just Fly tariff (seat will be allocated at the airport check-in), Get More (free seat selection before the flight) and All In (e.g. more legroom). If you don’t value additional services or if you only have a limited budget, the best decision is to go for cheap flights with Just Fly.
