About First Air
The Canadian airline First Air was founded in 1946 as Bradley Air Services in 1946. Aside from charter flights, the airline offered support for setting up the Distant Early Warning Line (DEW Line) in the Arctic. Regular flights were gradually offered primarily to help the companies in the Arctic in search of oil and minerals.
From the end of the 1960s, First Air used DHC-3 Otter and DHC-2 Beaver, among others. In 1971, the northernmost flight base for commercial purposes was established in Eureka, about 1,000 kilometers from the North Pole. In 1972 the airline’s fleet was increased by two DC-3s. From 1973 First Air offered scheduled flights on the Ottawa – North Bay & Sudbary route. The base in Iqaluit was opened in 1975. The Canadian airline has played a major role in both passenger and cargo traffic in the Northwest Territories since the mid-1970s. From 1987 to 1994 First Air was responsible for all transports connected with the DEW project; For this purpose, the fleet was supplemented by two Twin Otters and two Hawker Siddeley 748s. In 1995 the airline succeeded in taking over Ptarmigan Airways – Northwest Territorial Airways followed in 1997. From then on there was also a cooperation with Air Canada.
The airline transports around 225,000 passengers and a good 22 million kilograms of mail and cargo every year. The fleet consists of thirteen ATR 42 aircraft, four Boeing 737s and one British Aerospace. A corresponding charter offer can be obtained online to have people and / or freight transported.

First Air Check-in
Online and mobile check-in is not possible with the airline. It is currently not known whether First Air is expanding the check-in options. For more information, see the airline’s website.
To check in at the airport, check the closing times of the check-in counter on the First Air website. If you are not at the airport in time, you will not be able to board the plane and you will lose all your rights on the purchased flight ticket.
First Air Baggage Allowance
Hand luggage on a jet flight may be 25 x 46 x 55 centimeters, on a turboprop flight 22 x 20 x 46 centimeters. Liquids and gels in quantities smaller than 100 milliliters may be taken on board the aircraft, provided they are kept in a clear, resealable plastic bag and the contents are in the original packaging.
Two pieces of luggage, each weighing a maximum of 32 kilograms, can be carried on Jet Flights. Two pieces of baggage per passenger are also allowed on turboprop flights, but here they must not weigh more than 20 kilograms each. For both types of flight, three additional pieces of baggage can be checked in for a fee. A stroller or child seat is free of charge. Corrosive, toxic and radioactive materials, gases, ammunition, organic products, explosive and flammable materials must not be carried on the aircraft.
Musical instruments and sports baggage can be transported within the free baggage allowance. However, if the free baggage allowance is exceeded, fees will apply. It should be ensured that the maximum weight of 45 kg or the maximum height of 292 centimeters are not exceeded. It costs $ 50 to transport a properly packaged bike.
