About El Al Israel Airlines
EL AL Israel Airlines was established in 1948 as the national airline of Israel. EL AL Israeli Airlines, which made its first nonstop flight between Boeing 7070 and New York-Tel Aviv in 1961, traveled 5760 miles in 9 hours and 33 minutes.
The first flight, which was operated under the name El Al, started in 1948 with the then Israeli President on board. The latter attended a conference in Geneva and considered how to fly it back. The embargo against Israel posed major problems, so the decision was made to convert a United States Overseas Airlines aircraft, which was licensed in the United States, into a plane belonging to the non-existent company El Al in order to pick up the president. The new airline was born. The company’s first profit was reported in 1960, until then the business was unprofitable. With the expansion of the fleet, the route network expanded, from 1995 they flew to the Middle East. In addition to the African, American and Asian destinations such as Cairo, Mumbai and Toronto, most of El Al Airlines’ destinations are in Europe.
The largest airline within Israel is El Al with offers ranging from cheap flights to higher price ranges. The name of the airline is taken from the Bible, it says: Preach up, call to God. In 2010, El Al Airlines carried more than 3.8 million people, the majority of whom are of Israeli origin. With a worldwide network of partnerships, the airline is one of the most important airlines.
In June 2003, with the privatization of the company, it went public.
