Delta Air Lines About Delta Air Lines

Delta Air Lines began in 1924 as an agricultural airline under the Huff Daland Dusters name for crop pollination in Macon, Georgia. A year later the company moved to Monroe in Louisiana and the company name was finally changed in 1928 to Delta Air Service, which is connected to the Mississippi Delta. The company’s current headquarters in Atlanta, the capital of Georgia, were moved into in 1941. Delta got its current name in 1945.

In 1953 the takeover of the airline Chicago and Southern Air Lines took place. The joint route network was then marketed as Delta C&S for two years. With the Douglas DC-8 the first jet engine was added to the fleet in 1959. In 1972, Delta took over another airline, Northeast Airlines, to strengthen its position in the northeastern United States. In 1987, Delta acquired Western Airlines with its aviation hubs in Salt Lake City and Los Angeles, making it the fourth largest airline in the United States and the fifth largest in the world. In 1991 Delta took over the transatlantic route network and Pan-Am terminal at John F. Kennedy International Airport from Pan American World Airways for $ 1.3 billion after their bankruptcy.

The US airline also has hubs in Cincinnati, Detroit, New York JFK, New York LaGuardia, Minniapolis and Salt Lake City. Delta Air Lines is a major carrier and, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation, is one of the U.S. airlines that generates more than $ 1 billion in revenue in one fiscal year. In June 2020, the fleet consisted of 863 aircraft. The machines came from the manufacturers Airbus, Boeing and McDonnell Douglas. Delta Air Lines offers cheap flights to all inhabited parts of the world, and connections in the United States are particularly well developed. Delta Air Lines is a member of the SkyTeam alliance.
