About Croatia Airlines
Croatia Airlines is the national airline of Croatia. The company was originally founded on July 20, 1989 under the name of Zagal (former Zagreb Airlines) and only provided UPS cargo services with the Cessna 402 aircraft type. After the first democratic elections in the country, Zagal was renamed to Croatia Airlines on July 23, 1990. As a result, domestic flight operations commenced and the first flight on the Zagreb-Split line took place in 1991. The design of the aircraft changed in 2004 by simplifying and modernizing the old one.
In the country where air traffic was closed due to Croatia’s struggle for independence, the flights of Croatian Airlines had to be stopped. With the resumption of flights, the company has become a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
In the same year, the airline launched its flights to Frankfurt, the first international flight. Although Croatian Airlines ranks first among the former Yugoslavia countries in terms of number of passengers, long years have been at a loss.
Every year, around 1.75 million people who were able to book a flight are transported to destinations within Croatia or Europe. The Croatia Airlines fleet is one of the youngest and most modern in Europe and comprises 14 aircraft, most of which are from Airbus.
As a member of the international air transport association IATA and the association of European airlines AEA, they are also a regional member of the Star Alliance. The Croatia Airlines bonus program is called Miles & More, the high-performance frequent flyer program in Europe. The miles earned can be exchanged for flight and upgrade awards, hotel accommodation or rental cars.
