About Cayman Airways

Cayman Airways began its first flights on December 7, 1968, the day it was founded. Its founding was the result of the national government buying 51% of Cayman Brac Airways. The total nationalization of the airline did not take place until December 1977.

The development of the international air network occured with the establishment of a line to Kingston in Jamaica. After acquiring its jet aircraft in 1978, Cayman Airways served Houston in the United States. More and more open to international routes, it served in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis, Newark, New York and St. Louis in the 1980s. In 2013, Cayman Airways was the main airline of the Cayman Islands and operated flights from Owen Roberts International Airport. It allows travelers to travel to Miami, New York, Chicago and Dallas in the United States, as well as Cuba, Honduras, Jamaica and the three islands of the Cayman Islands archipelago.

In August 2018, the company announced the launch of a new route to Denver. The company logo is Sir Turtle, designed by Suzy Soto in 1963. In the 1970s, the Cayman Islands Tourist Board purchased this design as a symbol of local tourism. Cayman Airways then uses the logo and makes it evolve over the years. Sir Turtle’s 50th birthday was celebrated in 2013, with celebrations across the archipelago.
