Bulgaria Air is Bulgaria’s flag carrier airline. It was founded in 2002 and is headquartered in Sofia. He made his first flight from Sofia to London and Paris. The airline uses the Sofia airport as a hub. Today it is 99.9% owned by the Bulgarian airline Hemus Air, which has now combined all three Bulgarian airlines. Bulgaria Air emerged from the insolvent Balkan Bulgarian Airlines in 2002 and was declared a state carrier in Bulgaria in the same year. The flight connections of the previous airline could be taken over seamlessly. Bulgaria Air was privatized three years later. Hemus Air was only allowed to take over the airline in 2007 with the promise to pay a further 86 million euros for the expansion of the fleet.

Bulgaria Air Food & Beverage
Bulgaria Air provides passengers on board with free on-board catering. In addition to water, soft drinks, coffee and tea, this also includes alcoholic beverages such as beer or wine. In economy, there is usually a sandwich and a chocolate dessert to eat. Vegetarians can choose to request a vegetarian sandwich when booking their ticket. The airline does not provide any further information on possible special meals on its website.
If you want special meals, the demand before departure is worthwhile, at least for business passengers. Bulgaria Air officially promises only a welcome drink for business, followed by a warm meal and a wide selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. However, many customers are not satisfied with the quality of food.
Do not expect too much when it comes to catering for Bulgaria Air. The airline devotes only a few austere sentences to the topic on its own website and receives mostly poor marks for eating and drinking on board in the ratings of travelers. Especially if you fly with children or are dependent on special meals for medical, religious or ideological reasons, it is advisable to eat or pack provisions before departure.
