About Austrian Airlines

Austrian Airlines was founded in Vienna in 1957 and is Austria’s flag carrier airline. In 2009, Lufthansa bought all the shares. Austian Airlines totally owned by Lufthansa Group. The Vienna International Airport is used as a hub. At the end of 2016, 11.5 million passengers were carried at a occupancy rate of 76%.

Austrian Airlines Baggage Allowance

Carry-on baggage

The airline Austrian Airlines is allowed to take a small piece of luggage with the dimensions 55 x 40 x 23 cm as hand luggage on board the aircraft. Passengers traveling in economy class should ensure that the luggage weighs no more than 8 kg. Two 8 kg luggage can be carried in Business Class. In addition, the passenger may take another personal item into the cabin with the maximum dimensions of 40 x 30 x 10 cm. Liquids must be packaged according to applicable EU regulations.

Checked baggage

At the check-in desk, passengers on a flight of Austrian Airlines can carry two luggage in the Business Class up to a maximum weight of 32 kg and in Economy Class a luggage up to 23 kg. (One exception is the Economy Light rate available on domestic routes, which does not include a free baggage.) There is also a limit to the size of the suitcase or bag. Thus the maximum size is 158 centimeters in the sum of all sides. Under two years of age are entitled to a free baggage of 23 kg each.

Other luggage

If the indicated dimensions and the maximum transport weight are not sufficient, for example in the case of over-luggage, or special luggage such as musical instruments, Austrian Airlines will charge extra charges. The additional fees vary between 50 and 450 euros and depend on the route and the dimensions. For sport luggage, a lump sum of 50 euros (inner-European) or 100 euros (intercontinental) must be paid in the event of an excess of the free baggage allowance. Ski or snowboard equipment is excluded from the package. These can be transported on most routes free of charge (not in the Economy Light tariff). For any sports bag, you must contact the airline by phone or via a contact form.

The special feature of the program is that you as a Hon-Circle member must collect a total of 600,000 miles in two consecutive calendar years. As a standard member of Miles and More, you only have to collect a flight mile to become a member.
