About Alaska Airlines
Alaska Airlines is an American airline based in SeaTac, Seattle. In 1932, McGee Airways initially flew between Anchorage and Bristol Bay on a single-engine aircraft with only three seats. This was followed by acquisitions and mergers, which often changed the company’s name. In 1944 the name Alaska Airlines came up. Its sister airline and regional airline called Horizon Air was founded in 1978. It should fill the gaps in the route network of the larger airlines in the United States. Later, in 1985, the Alaska Air Group was founded as a holding company. Just a year later, it bought Jet America Airlines and Horizon Air. Alaska Airlines is currently the world’s seventh largest low-cost carrier. It is striking that Alaska Airlines is constantly investing in new technologies. For example, the airline was one of the first to offer tickets and check-in via the Internet.
The airline’s main hub is located at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The airline also has other hubs at the airports in Anchorage, Portland and Los Angeles.
As of June 2020, the Alaska Airlines fleet comprised a total of 329 aircraft. The average age of the machines is 8.5 years. The frequent flyer program Mileage Plan offers discounts to passengers who use Alaska Airlines frequently.
