About Air Malta
In the 1970s, the Maltese government called on international airlines to establish an airline company in the country. Pakistan Airlines (PIA) Air, selected as the best airline in Asia, is tasked with establishing Malta. The first name of airlines is Air Malta Co Ltd. and was officially launched on March 31, 1973.
On April 1, 1974, Air Malta started flights to Rome, Tripoli, London, Manchester, Frankfurt and Paris with 2 Boeing 720Bs. In 1983 Air Malta set a world record because in September the airline’s three B737-200s were in the air for almost 15 hours a day per aircraft. In the winter of 2006/07, Air Malta introduced a codeshare partnership with Lufthansa. Other partners in this area are Emirates, KLM and Turkish Airlines, to give only a small insight. A maintenance base is also operated with the large German airline Lufthansa. In 2012, the financially stricken Air Malta received an aid package from the EU.
Air Malta’s fleet currently consists of 9 airbuses, divided into A-320 and A-320neo. The airline supports cultural activities, is involved in social issues and is committed to environmental protection. The name of the frequent flyer program is Flypass.

Air Malta Check-in
Air Malta’s online check-in is activated 24 hours before departure. All the passenger has to do is register on the airline website with their booking number and surname, e-ticket number or frequent flyer program number. The boarding pass can be printed out there, which means that travelers can easily bypass the check-in counter at the airport.

Travelers can check in online at eleven airports from 24 to 2 hours before departure. At the airport, all counters open at the latest two hours and close 35-45 minutes before the scheduled start. If you only travel with hand luggage from Malta, you can also check in at the airline’s sales office at Malta International Airport.
Air Malta Baggage Allowance
Air Malta’s hand baggage regulations stipulate that all utensils that are required on board the respective aircraft and that do not pose a risk to the flight or other passengers may be taken into the cabin. Please note that liquids have to be packed beforehand in accordance with the applicable EU regulations. Drinks purchased in the gate area can also be taken. In addition to a piece of hand luggage measuring 20 cm x 40 cm x 55 cm with a maximum permitted weight of 10 kg in Economy Class and 15 kg in Club Malta Class, a laptop, the corresponding laptop bag, a briefcase and a handbag and belly bag are also allowed be brought on board.
Passengers who check in their luggage and fly within the “Simply Fly” or “Best Value” economy class tariffs may take a piece of luggage up to a maximum of 20 kg free of charge. Two pieces of luggage weighing 20 kg each are permitted for the “Spoil Yourself” tariff. In Business Class (“Basic” and “Value” tariffs) there is also the option of giving up 20 kg twice. 32 kg are permitted twice in the “Anytime” tariff. The stated provisions apply to both adults and children. Infants under two years of age can have a total of up to 10 kg of free baggage checked in. Club members have the option of carrying up to 10 kg of additional luggage. For excess baggage, fees between 50 and 150 euros must be paid, depending on the type (excess weight, extra baggage) and the extent to which the free baggage allowance has been exceeded.
The following applies to sports baggage: if it exceeds the free baggage allowance and is included in the list of common sports equipment on the Air Malta website, it costs 30 euros per flight. You get a sports equipment voucher for this price in advance of the flight. The voucher can be booked up to four hours before the flight. If the equipment is not listed, excess baggage charges must be paid. This is also necessary for musical instruments if they cannot be carried as free baggage.

Air Malta Seat Selection
At Air Malta, passengers can reserve regular seats and seats with more legroom. The costs depend on the booked tariff and the type of booking: In the Economy Flexi and Club Class, the choice of seats is free, in the regular Economy Class Air Malta charges between 10 and 25 euros. Reservation over the Internet is generally cheaper than at the counter.
Air Malta Knee Distance
Because of the airlines who want to reduce the cost of flying more passengers, knee distance is very important especially on long haul flights. The front seats and emergency exit seats are the seats with the highest knee distance. It is generally sold for a fee.
Flypass Frequent Flyer Program
The free frequent flyer program Flypass enables participants to collect KMiles on every scheduled flight from Air Malta. The height of the KMiles depends on the flight segment, the service used and the flight price. If enough KMiles come together, they can be exchanged for free scheduled flights. With a successfully submitted membership application, Flypass customers receive the status “Temporary”. If more than 10,000 bonus KMiles are collected within a calendar year, you will be a “permanent member” the next year. With over 35,000 bonus KMiles, the status “Diamond” is awarded. Those who can maintain Diamond status receive an annual bonus dividend of 3,000 KMiles.
Air Malta Food & Beverage
Economy passengers are served a sandwich or biscuit and a small bottle of water as part of the on-board catering included in the flight price. It is also possible to choose from a small on-board menu. There, beer, wine or spirits cost four euros each, coffee and tea three euros each, and soft drinks such as juices two euros each. In addition to sweets (between three and six euros), there are also small savory snacks such as olives, nuts or chips (around three euros) and instant dishes such as soup or pasta for around six euros.
In business, Air Malta offers passengers a cold or warm meal, as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, at no extra charge, depending on the flight duration. However, the airline does not provide any further information. Only in business is it possible to order special meals up to 48 hours before departure. The list includes Muslim food, a children’s meal and various other options, including vegetarian, gluten-free, lactose-free or low-calorie.
Air Malta Inflight Entertainment
Air Malta Airbus planes are equipped with video systems and are arranged for an enjoyable journey. It also provides information in emergency situations. Stewardesses serve a small snack in Economy Class and a full meal in Business Class. They are also happy to provide information if holidaymakers still need some information about their travel destination. Air Malta also offers good service in other areas, for example looking after needy people or children traveling alone. With this airline, every passenger can comfortably reach the beautiful island of Malta or one of Air Malta’s other destinations.
