Air Italy About Air Italy

The airline company, Air Italy created in March 1963 under the name Alisarda changed its name in May 1991 to become Meridiana. From November 2009, a process of merging airline activities with the company Eurofly was put in place to lead to the creation of Meridiana Fly on February 28, 2010. Based in Sardinia, in the city of Olbia, this new airline was ranked second in the country and was the only Italian company to be listed on the Milan Stock Exchange. Meridiana Fly operated its flights with a fleet of Airbus and McDonnell Douglas with the fully restored internal cabin. It had signed codeshare agreements with airlines such as British Airways and Iberia. It thus served national, international and intercontinental destinations, mainly European cities, from airports in central and northern Italy. Widely known for its punctuality, the airline made it a point of honor to improve their figures.

On February 19, 2018, the management team announced the change of the airline’s name to Air Italy and the creation of a new identity. The stated desire was to take over from Alitalia, in full bankruptcy. The codeshare with Qatar airways took effect on April 17, 2018. The first Milan-New York flight took place in May 2018. On February 11, 2020, Air Italy announces its liquidation and the end of its activities, due to ever-increasing debts.
