About Air India
Air India is India’s national flag carrier airline. It was founded in 1932 with a private enterprise under the name of Tata Airlines. On July 27, 1946, the company became Air India. In 1948, after India’s independence, the government bought 49% of the company’s capital and authorized it to operate international flights.
On June 8, 1948, Air India operated a Mumbai-London flight via Geneva and Cairo. In the 1950s, the company opened new international lines: to Hong Kong, to Singapore, to Sydney, from Delhi to Moscow. It was expropriated in 1953.
In 1990, Air India organized the evacuation of Indian nationals stranded in the Gulf countries at the time of the conflict. The operation began on August 15, 1990 and lasted 59 days. In 1993, the company inaugurated the Mumbai-Dar-es-Salaam-Durban-Johannesburg-Dar-es-Salaam-Mumbai line and, in 1996, the Mumbai-Frankfurt-Chicago-Frankfurt-Mumbai line. It is one of the largest airlines in the country and is a leader in domestic flights. Both domestic and international flights are operated.
The company’s headquarters are located in Mumbai and the airline uses Indira Gandhi International Airport as its hub. It also uses Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport as its second hub. Air India is India’s largest international carrier with 18.6% market share. In 2014, the airline has become a member of the global aviation alliance Star Alliance.
Air India combines the future visions of an international and competitive group with local traditions. The company’s logo, the red swan with the orange Konark chakra, which can be found in the Indian flag, presents this symbiosis. The frequent flyer program is called Flying Returns. With this, not only Air India customers, but also passengers of other partner airlines can earn miles. The airline is also known for a special window design of the aircraft, which look like ancient palace windows.
In June 2017, the Indian government decided to privatize Air India.

How to check in online?
Passengers can first choose which data they want to check in with. Depending on what is at hand, this can be the electronic ticket number, name and flight information, for frequent flyers the customer number or the credit card number.
After all relevant data has been entered, the system automatically assigns it to your flight. Enjoy your flight in the place that is most comfortable for you. When checking in online, you can enter your preferred seat. Once the seat has been assigned, it cannot be changed again.
Important information about baggage drop-off
It is important to arrive at the airport on time on the day of departure. This is the only way to ensure that there is enough time to take all the necessary precautions. For example, this applies to baggage drop-off.
Check in your baggage at the airport baggage drop desk. So that your flight does not start without you, you should keep in mind that there may be longer waiting times. Take this into account when planning your schedule.
The mobile boarding pass
The mobile boarding pass contains all the information that is relevant to the booked flight. As a passenger, you must always be able to show your card on request. At online check-in, you do not necessarily have to print out your boarding pass created online. If you like to do without unnecessary paper, you can save your mobile boarding pass on your smartphone and show it at the airport.
Check-in start time
Starting from 48 hours before the flight and continues until 2 hours prior the scheduled flight.

To check in at the airport, check the closing times of the check-in counter on the Air India website. If you are not at the airport in time, you will not be able to board the plane and you will lose all your rights on the purchased flight ticket.
Air India Baggage Allowance
One passenger bag is permitted per passenger, which must not be heavier than 8 kg and not larger than 55 x 40 x 20 cm. In addition, each passenger is allowed to carry a laptop bag on board.
On flights within India, First Class passengers are allowed to leave 40 kg of luggage. In the Executive Business Class, there are 35 kg luggage per passenger and 25 kg economy class. For infants up to 24 months, 10 kg of luggage may be carried. However, on international flights, baggage determinations may differ widely from those for domestic flights, so the exact provisions for the respective flight should be checked on the airline’s website before traveling. The sum of the length of a piece of luggage must not exceed 158 cm. For children between 2 and 11 years, a piece of luggage of 23 kg can be carried, for small children up to 2 years of age of 10 kg.
Additional fees will be charged for the carriage of special luggage or sports equipment, which is however not as high as for normal over-luggage. Golf, (water) skiing and fishing equipment can be transported within the baggage restrictions.
