Air Iceland Connect About Air Iceland Connect

The history of the Air Iceland Connect dates back to 1937. Flugfélag Akureyrar was established on June 3 before changing its name to Flugfélag Islands on March 13, 1940. In 1973, the airlines Flugfélag Islands and Loftleioir merged under the name of Flugleioir hf. The domestic division takes the name of Flugleioir while the transatlantic division is called Icelandair. On May 1, 1975, however, it was renamed Flugfélag Norðurlands. A further restructuring and the merger with the airline Icelandair Domestic and Norlandair resulted in the name Air Iceland in 1997. Its headquarters are in the capital Reykjavík, the hubs of the fleet are located at Reykjavík Airport and Akureyri Airport. Air Iceland is the largest subsidiary of the Icelandair Group with around 250 employees.

It was in May 2017 that airline once again announced a name change, it will now be known as Air Iceland Connect. This new modification demonstrates the company’s desire to make itself better known internationally and to simplify reservations for foreign travelers.

All aircraft are designed in such a way that they can fly in a wide variety of weather conditions and even take off and land without any problems when it is very cold. In order to be able to guarantee the safety of staff and passengers at all times, all aircraft undergo regular maintenance. Air Iceland’s planes stand out clearly from other planes of the same type thanks to their original Icelandic name “Flugfélag Íslands”, which is painted blue and yellow. As a subsidiary of the Icelandair Group, the airline does not belong to any alliance. However, with the frequent flyer program Icelandair Saga, it offers its passengers a bonus program for cheap flights.
