Air Canada Rouge About Air Canada Rouge

Air Canada announced the creation of its low-cost subsidiary, called Air Canada Rouge, in December 2012. The latter’s mission is to ensure the company’s leisure flights, mainly to Europe and the West Indies. Air Canada Rouge acquires its first planes in May (Airbus A319) and June 2013 (Boeing 767-300ER). On June 21, the company obtained the air operator certificate issued by Transport Canada. It can thus inaugurate its first flight on July 1, 2013 and launch services to Mexico (Toronto-Cancun in October) and Jamaica (Toronto-Montego Bay in November).

2014 also saw an expansion of the range of destinations, including the addition of Nice and Hawaii in May. At the end of the year, Air Canada Rouge can be proud of having transported more than 3 million passengers. In May 2015, the company took over certain lines from its parent company, Air Canada, and began to serve a domestic network (Calgary, Halifax, Charlottetown, Kelowna, etc.). It also acquired a new type of aircraft in December, the Airbus 321. In February 2016, it signed a codeshare agreement with Brussels Airlines.
